Commentary: The evolving hazards of smoking and benefits of cessation

Dr. Jha, the director of CGHR, offers perspective on smoking risks and mortality in the 21st century in a commentary on a paper by Lam et al in the journal Addiction. Lam and colleagues analyse premature mortality risks for smokers in Hong Kong and finds that elderly Hong Kong residents above age 65 who currently smoke have a mortality rate just under twice that for similar never smokers.
