The Centre for Global Health Research (CGHR – http://www.cghr.org/) is a non-profit and non-partisan organization associated with the University of Toronto and St Michael’s Hospital. CGHR’s mission is to lead high-quality public health research that advances global health for all, with particular attention to the world’s poorest populations. Its flagship project, the Million Death Study (MDS), is run in collaboration with the Government of India and documents causes of death across the country.
Two MPH practicum positions will be open for the Summer 2018. Length of practicum is generally 16 weeks, but will be determined by university requirements. The student will work closely with a team of multidisciplinary and international scientists, researchers and analysts working on large-scale epidemiology research projects. Potential projects for the summer of 2018 include examining roles of certain risk factors for major causes of childhood mortality or global tobacco control.
Students are expected to design an analysis strategy using a large dataset derived from nationally-representative population surveys. Student will synthesize results to present data and contribute to summarizing results in manuscript form. Students are expected to efficiently and independently search and utilize literature sources. Demonstrated ability to be an enthusiastic and self-motivated learner, work well independently and within a team, and be a critical thinker is essential to this position.
