The Centre for Global Health Research (CGHR) (www.cghr.org) was established in 2002 to conduct large-scale epidemiological studies in developing countries. CGHR is a non-profit, non-partisan academic research institution dedicated to better health. The mission of CGHR is to conduct high quality research that advances global health, with a focus on the major causes of premature mortality worldwide. It has offices in Toronto, New Delhi and Bangalore. It is affiliated with St. Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto (www.stmichaelshospital.com) and St John’s Research Institute, Bangalore (www.sjri.res.in). We seek now a senior public health officer to join a world-class team, leading the physician follow up and training for the Million Death Study (MDS).

Institution: Centre for Global Health Research

Job Location: Bangalore, India

Duration: initial period 1 year; extension possible up to 5 years subject to satisfactory performance.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Requirements: MBBS with 10 years experience or MD with 3-5 years experience in the practice of either medicine or public health.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to plan, organize, assign, supervise, and inspect the work of professional and technical personnel
  • Ability to interpret and write comprehensive and technical reports and papers and document experience in lucid manner
  • Ability to recognize problems, exercise good judgments in appraising situations, problem solving abilities and making decisions
  • Ability to express comments and opinions clearly and concisely
  • Previous experience working with a large no of physicians and experience managing multi-disciplinary team (training staff, programmers, field staff, and others)
  • Minimum experience of 1 year managing projects and multi-disciplinary teams” to “Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Requirements
  • Ability to effectively deal with team dynamics to ensure that projects are delivered in a timely fashion
  • Dedication to open communications, problem solving and proactive seeking of innovations and solutions

Description:
Senior Physician – Public Health is sought to work on projects most notably the Million Death Study (MDS), which implements novel verbal autopsy across India. Additional work will be on blood-based epidemiological research, field based multi-assay testing in collaboration with industry and international partners, and physician decision making support systems. The preferred candidate will have a strong background in Public Health and experience in management and implementing, operating the projects. The responsibilities include advising on the various training programs; cooperation with State /central government as well as academic partners; review and approval of unit budgets, statistical and financial reports. CGHR has a flat, responsive and dynamic team, and the expectation is that this leadership position will foster to make all staff more productive. This position will be based in Bangalore, India.

Remuneration: Commensurate with experience and market rates.
