Changes in cause-specific neonatal and 1-59-month child mortality in India from 2000 to 2015

India has avoided about 1 million (10 lakh) deaths of children under age five since 2005, driven by significant reductions in mortality from pneumonia, diarrhoea, neonatal infections and birth asphyxia, according to new research published in today’s issue of The Lancet.

“India now has a blueprint to save even more lives of children in all parts of the country” commented Prabhat Jha, head of the Centre for Global Health Research India Foundation and Professor at St. Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto.
