District Interventions for Successful Health Action (DISHA)

The District Interventions for Successful Health Action (DISHA) project aims to increase local health care accountability in three districts of Karnataka, India: Tumkur, Raichur, and Chamrajnagar.

The main elements of the DISHA project include:

  • Training Panchayati Raj (local self-government) members to monitor and evaluate public health care performance and the Health Management Information System
  • A targeted study of transparency and accountability within the public health care provision of programs
  • A study evaluating the hierarchy of health care decision making in the Indian government
  • Creating district report cards for key health indicators
